Porcher says that a Nancy Martin married Thomas Cobb. Then on an errata page she changes it to Patsy. She never mentions a Betsy which is what the records say it was. Porcher doesn't show a child of Charles and Patsy named Betsy. Conclusion: There was no child named Nancy since the records clearly say Betsy. I think somehow she mixed up a Nancy and Betsy.

There is a discussion in Porcher's "The Martin Family" about the existance of "two prominent menn named John Martin who were in Virginia between 1680 and 1756. 1. Col. John Martin of Caroline County, who married Martha Burwell, and 2. John Martin, Gentlemen of King William County, whose wife was name Letitia." John Martin, Gent was Burgess of King William County from 1752-1756. Col John Martin had returned to Ireland before 1746 (when he was executor of a will in Ireland) and died there in 1760. The Colonel had no son named John unless by a wife before Martha Burwell and no such marriage has been mentioned.5

John Martin Gent served in the military as a Colonial Officer.
